The committee will hold two hearings next week. The first will be on Tuesday, June 21 at 1:00 p.m. ET, and the second will be on Thursday, June 23 at 1:00 p.m. ET. The committee is expected to hold at least one more hearing after the two next week, and to release a final report on its findings sometime in September.
Shit’s getting real. Local yahoos, gunners, and some solid citizens have gone into hyperdrive over the recent primary election, complaining about the use of absentee ballots and certain ballot counting machines (our ballots are paper, marked by hand, counted by machine that have long been considered reliable), and refusing to accept the results –even though all elected offices are held by Republicans in this county. Threats have been made against Republican election officials, and a public ruckus ensued, the first we can presume of many. Now I know what the “secret” rightist meetings were about a few days after the election. We’ll see a lot more of this going forward, and there is no doubt in my mind that the 2022 congressional elections will be thrown into dispute and chaos, no matter who wins. The point is to make the electoral process toxic. It’s working.
Gasoline prices have fallen at some stations around here $.20 from last week. Hm. Never reached $5.00 but got close. Many prices for goods and services have increased substantially (try vinyl gloves: from $2.00 for 50 to over $6.00) some have not increased at all. The Bai drink that we buy is still the same price it was in 2019. Eggs have fallen by a dollar per dozen and a half. On sale, flour is still under $2.00 per 5 pounds, but that no doubt will change. A lot. I understand that 30 year mortgage interest rates are now close to 6%; house prices are still going up in this area nevertheless.
The question is whether price inflation is coming under control or am I just noticing outliers?
Local farmer friend planted corn and beans over the last two weeks, late, very late for him, but he’ll do all right even though he’s left practically half his farm fallow — at least for now. That may change in a month. He delayed planting due to the drought and late freezes. Monsoon rains have started and are expected to continue more or less uninterrupted through July. Maybe August and September.
I wasn’t going to plant this year but broke down an planted sunflowers and winter squash. No corn, beans, tomatoes or peppers. Probably should have.

Thank you Chuck Mire.

The Jan 6 hearing will not save Democrats in the November elections. Neither will the overturning of Roe v Wade.
