Republicans finally found a bullet proof argument against gun control.
When the Gestapo is busting down your or your neighbors door what are you going to do? When they assault you or someone else on the street what are you going to do?

Assuming only a successful violent uprising would be enough to slow down or maybe reverse the Trump occupation regime, thinking about it begs the collective action problem/question.

What liberal would fire the first round, knowing that he/she would near-immediately be shot dead with rounds two through nine? What “liberals” in general would try to mass-uprise knowing that they as a “political community” are hopelessly outgunned and out-ammoed by the “conservative community”?

So this begs the second question: what level of anti-blue-state aggression by the Trump occupation regime would force several ten million blue-state inhabitants to feel threatened enough with short-term conquest and colonization-oppression-persecution as a population at the blue-states level to organize for genuine anti-Trump pre-violent offense-defense at the blue state and several-blue-states level?

Would an effort to outlaw and stamp out every “green-energy” and “carbon skyflooding decrease” initiative being attempted by the blue states and zones be enough be enough to convince the blue-teamers that the Trump regime plans to exterminate their separate political and social existence as states and as people?

Violent uprising is inadvisable, especially because the Trump regime is working at several levels to provoke it on purpose so as to invoke the Insurrection Act and declare martial law and taking steps up to strategic carpet bombing of Big Blue Cities and Little Blue University Towns if the Trump occupation regime decides it is necessary, convenient, and/or fun for them to do.

So what could Blue Citizens do? Considering how each individual Blue Citizen has near-zero power over anything? If several ten million individual Blue Citizens focused their several ten million near-zero doses of individual near-zero power on some kind of counter-Trump action field, would “quantity have a quality all its own”?

Most people are followers, not leaders. Followers are not dumm. They know what they want to have and where they want to go. They don’t know how to get there on their own. So they follow a leader who appears to know where the followers already want to go anyway and who appears to know how to get them there successfully. ( As with Dr. King and his movement followers).

So, assuming the zero present or future existence of any genuine productive-to-follow leaders anywhere in the Blue Zone, what kind of leaderless mass counter-offensive can several ten million Blue Zonian followers wage once they realize they have no leader and they as followers will have to figure out how to follow eachother in a generally beneficial direction?

I don’t know. I suppose a first step might be for follower-type people ( like me and most others) could offer ideas about what ” could work” if enough tens of millions of co-followers all did a version of the same thing and kept doing it.

Sometimes a “Pearl Harbor” event can unify a bunch of followers into mass spontaneous action against the “Pearl Harbor” event perpetrator. Trump’s planned and threatened aggression against Canada appears to have been a Pearl Harbor level event for Canada which got millions of Canadians spontaneously moving towards boycotting America and other approaches even before the organizing appearance of any leaders. The subsequent appearance of genuine leaders appears to have re-inforced the spontaneous instincts of millions of Canadians to begin organizing around a structure of planned resistance.

Trump is just as much an aggressionary enemy to Bluemericans as he is to Canadians and Danes and Greenlanders. As long as Bluemericans are too dumm to realize and understand what they see and/or too afraid to admit to realizing that they see it, then Bluemericans will not understand the Trump regime as a series of Pearl Harbor events against Bluemerica. If all several ten million Bluemericans do come to see and realize that Trump is their enemy ( In a Hitler versus USSR sense), then those several ten million
Bluemericans will be morally, emotionally and mentalectually ready to read and write about what ” to do” . And then experiment with doing it.

They have already begun to understand that Musk is their enemy and they have begun to try doing something about Musk. And so have people overseas.

I am not naturally humble enough to keep my thoughts about ” what to do” to myself until others have had a more-than-fair chance to offer their ideas first. But I am biting my fingers to keep from typing out some ideas and thoughts before others have had a more than fair chance to offer theirs first.

When Trump was not convicted on the first impeachment in 2019, it was a clear sign the Republicans had no problems with his authoritarian leanings. By the time he was “acquitted” in January 2021, it was all over.

There have been a lot of declarations of “The American Experiment is dead,” but really, the final, true time of death will be the moment Trump signs the declaration of martial law, and the military obeys and does not stand down and coup him and the whole Republican machine.

Then, well and truly, it will all be over, except for the wailing and the gnashing of the teeth… and the dying in the concentration camps.

A Warning to my Lefty Liberal Friends

My friends, I regret to say, we’ve already lost.

The 2022 and 2024 national elections, that is. We’ve already lost. And so we have lost EVERYTHING.

With recent court decisions and new laws taking effect that will suppress voting and gerrymander districts; with the complete overthrow of the Federal Court System and SCOTUS by Trump and McConnell (with the help of the Federalist Society and the Heritage Foundation); with the common perception among Americans of all political stripes that leaving Afghanistan was a “debacle” (it wasn’t); and with the broad empowerment of the Deplorables by State Governments and the fracturing of the American “Left;” we’ve already lost.

The Republicans will take the Senate and House in 2022, and a Republican will be president in 2024 (Trump, maybe; more likely, someone more competent).

And then it is Game Over. They will never again lose power, until things finally collapse or some outside power (Russia, probably China) is forced to strike with an EMP or similar mass effect attack.

And if you think the things the Republicans have done to destroy the last 150+ years of progress have been bad so far, it is NOTHING compared to what they will do once they again hold absolute power. They will undo EVERYTHING.

With the right combination of elections, they can and will hold a Constitutional Convention that locks out anything left of Right-Wing Nationalism and institute an autocratic, oligarchic, corporate, racist, misogynist, homophobic, dominionist, illiberal, police state – New Amerika.

And unless you are a Wealthy, White, Straight, Male, Protestant Christian, New Amerika will become a Living Hell. New Amerika will be the bastard child of Dickensian England, Apartheid South Africa, Nazi Germany, and Atwood’s Gilead. Your worst nightmare? Pales by comparison.

Though they will be almost as screwed as the rest of us, the White Supremacists, the American Taliban, the Deplorable followers of Trump, and other of such ilk will allow their masters to do whatever as they please, provided they punch down, hard, at the “Others” whom they so despise.

It won’t all happen at once, mind you; it didn’t happen overnight in Nazi Germany. But they went from victory in 1933 to Final Solution in 1942, merely nine years – and remember, the first concentration camps opened in 1933 to house political prisoners.

In New Amerika, women will be made to “know their place.” Their legal options will slowly be reduced to that of the late 19th century, eventually reduced again to chattel status. NOTE: I started working on this post before the SCOTUS refused to block the Texas abortion ban, so things are proceeding even FASTER than I thought they would.

In New Amerika, People of Color will be made to “know their place.” Jim Crow and worse Black Codes will once again become the law of the land. Private Prisons for Profit will become the Chain Gang Slave Plantations they always truly wanted… if they simply do not re-legalize chattel slavery outright.

In New Amerika, Liberals will be made to “know their place.” Freedom of speech will be severely curtailed. Protests will be outlawed, made into major felonies; protestors will be imprisoned. The Private Prisons will become the Slave Gulags for anyone who has the “wrong” political beliefs. Real Leftists will simply be shot or hung.

In New Amerika, homosexuality will be outlawed. With the Panopticon at their beckoning, no one will be safe, even in their own bedrooms. If even allowed to live, anyone LGBTQ will join POC and Liberals in the new Slave Gulags.

In New Amerika, Jews, Muslims, and other non-Christians will be made unwelcome at first; then limited in their worship; then banished or put into Slave Gulags. Atheists and Pagans go into the Slave Gulags – if they are lucky.

In New Amerika, they will complete their Manifest Destiny and exterminate the Native Nations; at first by dissolving the Reservations and selling off all the lands, legally dissolving the tribes, and then by forced cultural assimilation or exile to the Slave Gulags.

In New Amerika, there will be no legal rights or process for the vast majority of people. It will be a true Police State; if you are not one of the “Elect,” the few who have the protections of the law, the Federal Police will essentially be judge, jury, and executioner. They will have the right to summary executions; not simply de facto, as today, but fully approved de jure (again, unless they are dealing with a member of the “Elect”).

Note that none of this is whacky Liberal Lefty fantasy; the Deplorable followers of the reactionary right wing have been DEMANDING all these changes. They DROOL over having this power. And with absolute power, there will be no reason for their masters not to let them have what they have always wanted, and every reason to give it to them.

What can you do at this point? What are your options?

Note again that the time to fight in the political sector is OVER. We have LOST. Legal gerrymandering and legal voter suppression will not be overturned in the Trump-packed Federal Court system, which include SCOTUS; everything else Trump did was simply smoke and mirrors in order to enable McConnell and crew to pack the courts. Non-Republicans will never again be allowed to have a voice in politics. They will remain, at best, an impotent minority – if they are allowed to remain at all.

That gives you three options:

1) You can fight. Realize thought, that if you fight, you will die – either in the street, in a police torture room, or in a Slave Gulag. We may have the numbers, but the Liberals in this country are too milquetoast, and the Left in this country, such as it is, is too damn fractured to put up a united front. Without that united front, we lose. And by the time the Centrists realize this, it will be too late. Anti-Nazi Germans put up a good fight – and they lost… and they died. Without significant outside help, any rebellion is impossible.

[NOTE: There is the Military Coup option, but with the propaganda being fed to the military after the retreat from Afghanistan, that’s likely to not happen, no matter how much the Brass might want it too. I’d say if it happens, there is a greater than 50% chance it just ends in units fighting among themselves, then collapsing, with the default win going to the Trumpists. And if the Christian Dominionists that have the majority in the Air Force win quickly, they crush everyone else with air superiority.]

2) You can flee. I advise this. If you can get out of the country, get out, as soon as possible. Don’t wait. Get that passport, find a place where things are not as damn crazy, and the long arm of New Amerika will not bother to find you, and go there. As New Amerika will mostly be Isolationist and Xenophobic, most places should be relatively safe, just avoid any place they might want to conquer for resources or punish for old grudges. Note that Canada is not a good choice due to resources; Mexico is not a good choice because of old grudges (I expect an invasion of Mexico to secure the border and steal the oil fields, exterminating anyone who gets in the way).

3) You can stay – if you can “pass.” Not an option for many, of course. But if you can pass for White, can stomach going to their churches, present as cishet, join in at the Two-Minute Hate as needful, and can simply keep your head down, you can stay, and live a mostly quiet, if impoverished life (impoverished in all ways).

This is our future.

Worst Timeline Ever.

The good news is that New Amerika will not last long.

The bad news is that it will collapse in the upcoming Global Climate Crisis, which is anywhere from 10 to 40 years away (likely sooner than later). So then, out of the frying pan and into the fire – and instead of Gestapo USA you will have to deal with cannibals…

But what’s particularly offensive is that Trump is saying “I can’t get him back” at the same time as El Salvador’s President is claiming “I don’t have the power to return him.”

It’s intentional Kabuki Theatre, Ian. In the interest of ‘Israel.’ The layers run really reallly deep.

If you’ll indulge me, I’ll illustrate using this example before moving on to Jeffrey Sachs, a man who these days is allegedly on the side of the oppressed and the victims of wars.

Drawing parallels between Hamas and gangs in El Salvador, Bukele continued: “It would be like if Salvadorans would have sided with MS13 terrorists, just because we share ancestors or nationality. Bukele closed his post with a word of advice, drawing from his nearly 30-month long—and counting—assault against gangs. “Palestinians should do the same: get rid of those animals and let the good people thrive.”

The parallel drawn by Bukele between Hamas and MS13 derives from an evangelical Christian Zionist Jewish Supremacist understanding of “terrorist” security threats as a spiritual contest between good and evil. Bukele uses biblical allegories, religious narratives, declarations of devotion, and visual propaganda leveraging sacred symbols to justify the country’s security policies, in addition to asserting the Salvadoran government’s unwavering support for Israel during its genocide of Palestinians.

Since first declaring a state of emergency in March 2022, the Bukele regime’s hardline against gangs remains popular and most Salvadorans perceive an increase in public safety, despite a deepening record of political repression, authoritarianism, arbitrary detentions, the suspension of constitutional rights, and widespread human rights abuses—including 265 deaths in state custody and torture in prisons. El Salvador now has the highest incarceration rate in the world.

According to Bukele’s formulation, the great battle for the soul of nations demands a cleansing of uncivilized individuals living among otherwise good people. Recycled iterations of security discourse from the Cold War through the War on Terror and the current “war on gangs” rearticulate a colonial imaginary buttressed by Christian Zionism.’

An open letter to Ban Ki-Moon – Richard Falk

Dear UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon,

Having read of the vicious attacks on you for venturing some moderate, incontestable criticisms of Israel’s behaviour, I understand well the discomfort you clearly feel.

Not since Richard Goldstone chaired the group that released the report detailing apparent Israeli war crimes during its massive attack on Gaza at the end of 2008 have Israel’s big political guns responded with such unwarranted fury, magnified as usual by ultra-Zionist media commentary.

Netanyahu has the audacity to claim that your acknowledgement that it is not unnatural for the Palestinians oppressed for half century to resist and resort to extremism is tantamount to the encouragement of terrorism, what he described as giving a “tailwind to terrorism.”

The fact that your intention was quite the opposite hardly matters. And your repeated denunciation of terrorism will be disregarded by these irresponsible critics whose sole objective is to take attention away from the issues raised.

Israel and its keenest supporters have found that there is no better way to do this than by defaming their critics, branding them as soft on terrorism or even as anti-Semites. And it makes no difference whatsoever that you have leaned over backwards, almost falling to the ground, to deflect criticism of Israel during your time as leader of the UN.

It is not surprising that you should respond to such behaviour in a New York Times opinion piece by imploring Israel and its friends to refrain from “shooting the messenger” and instead heed the message.

What intrigues and appalls me is that while I was special rapporteur for Occupied Palestine during the period 2008-2014, you chose to attack me personally in public on several occasions, joining with US and Israel diplomats calling for my dismissal and doing the utmost to undermine my credibility while discharging this unpaid UN job under difficult conditions.

At the time, I was doing my best to bear witness to some of the same truths about Israel’s unlawful and immoral behavior that recently got you in similar hot water. My UN mandate was to report upon the reality of Israeli violations of international law while sustaining their apartheid regime of oppressive control over the Palestinian people.

The Palestinians need and deserve such a voice as provided by the UN to make governments of the world more aware of their responsibility to take steps that will bring this unprecedented ordeal to an end. In carrying out these duties, it is my hope that future UN special rapporteurs receive the support that they need from future secretary generals.

In my case, hurt and offended by being so unfairly attacked by you, the highest UN official, I was encouraged to seek some kind of explanation from your office, and hopefully even an apology. You never criticised my reports on Palestine or their criticisms of Israel’s policies and practices, but rather focused your venomous remarks on some comments attributed to my views, as expressed on my personal blog, that were concerned with the 9/11 attacks and the Boston marathon bombings.

It was obvious from the content of your attack that you relied on a letter written by Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, Israel’s faithful watchdog NGO in Geneva, that gave my rather carefully qualified blog comments an inflammatory twist. But it appeared that you seemed wary of engaging in any debate about the substance of my criticisms of Israel’s policies and practices in my reports.

I called your office, and was referred to your affable aide de camp, whom seemed immediately apologetic, before I was even able to register a complaint and explain to him my actual position on these controversial issues.

After listening to what I had to say, he obliquely accepted my concerns by admitting that “we didn’t do due diligence,” by which he evidently meant that the secretary-general and his advisors relied on Neuer’s letter rather than reading what I actually wrote on the blog, which was nuanced and rather moderate in tone and content.

This UN official volunteered a further explanation to the effect that “we were under great pressure at the time from the US Congress, and this was an opportunity to show that we were not anti-Israeli.”

This incident happened to occur while you were campaigning successfully for a second term as secretary-general, and apparently wanted to reassure Washington that you would not rock the boat if reelected.

I venture to say that if you had back then voiced such strong criticisms of Israel’s settlement policy or indicated a similar empathetic understanding of Palestinian resistance, you would never have received Washington’s blessings for a second term as secretary-general.

In light of this experience, I felt at the time that you were joining with others in shooting a messenger who was seeking to convey some inconvenient truths about Israel’s behavior. These truths are rather similar to your own comments about the denial of Palestinian rights, especially with respect to the right of self-determination.

The folk wisdom of “what goes around comes around” seems to fit your plight. You who expediently took shots at the messenger are now taking umbrage when the tactic is directed at you.

This response is reasonable in this instance but inconsistent with your own past behavior. You say, “..when heartfelt concerns about shortsighted or morally damaging policies emanate from so many sources, including Israel’s closest friends, it cannot be sustainable to keep lashing out at every well-intentioned critic.”

True, of course, but why only now? And only you?’

A recent Pew poll highlighted shows negative US adult opinion from 2022 to ’25 moved from 42 to 53% among “US adults.” In Dem/ Lean Dem, it shifted 53 to 69. Among age group 18-49, movement from 62 to 71% negative. And in 50+ D’s the biggest #ical shift = from 43 to 66% roughly 150% more negative.

For R’s overall movement from 27-37% negative. Age 18-49 from 35 to 50%! Little movement over 50, the hardcore white supremacist base, from 19 to only 23%.

Do I think there will be “false flags” at the Controlled Opposition Dimmie “Hand’s Off Ukraine” (not Hands off W. Bank, which would reflect international law, much less Hands off Palestine) demonstrations? Why bother, after all? If El Salvadoreans in Diaspora ( most especially in America) are genuinely concerned that the Trump regime could send any or all of them to Bukele’s gulags for the simple fun of it, they could all at once stop sending any remittances at all. They would immediately shrink El Salvador’s GDP by about 25% or whatever. If non Salvadoreans all over the world totally boycotted every single thing that is exported from El Salvador until all the Trump abductees were released from Bukele’s gulags and Bukele were economically tortured into reversing and cancelling his agreement with the Maga regime to accept kidnapped abductees from America, then perhaps he would release the abductees and cancel the agreement.

The remittance-withholding part of it would only happen if El Salvadoreans all over the world spontaneously consider this their Pearl Harbor moment. If they don’t, then nothing will happen. If they do, their example might inspire others to start and join a boycott to torture the Bukele regime into releasing the abductees and cancelling the abductee-harvesting agreement.

( Separately, I remember hearing that while the Supreme Shystercourt supposedly supported the concept of the Maga regime ” facilitating” the release and return of the kidnapped abductee in question, the Supreme Shystercourt drew a distinction between “facilitate” and “effectuate” that return, which the lower Court had also demanded. I dunno. If it came down to a real civil war situation, how much of the rank and file military would desert for the revolutionaries? For that matter, would it make that mich differance? As Afghanistan showed if nothing else, a popularly supported insurgency wil beat even a very technologically superior force that lacks such support. And the US has more guns than people. And did the Afghans win because of Air Superiority? No. Air Superiority means a lot in a peer to peer stand up fight. Against an insugency, its practically meaningless. Observe the Saudi efforts against Yemen. KSA had TOTAL air superiority and the Houthis beat them bloody in every encounter. That’s why I’m not worried about the US invading Yemen. They’d never get off the beach. The former Yemeni army had VERY sophisticated rocket artillery units and that is why the Houthis have been so very successful, despite being so small and poor.

If this is true and real, it would illustrate the Silicon Nazi leg of the Three-Legged Stool of Support comprising the Triple Nazi Revolution behind and beneath the Trump regime. This is clear rage-bait. The USG regulates the operation of nuclear plants, it doesn’t actually own them (well, not any that aren’t embedded in naval vessels, research / training reactors, or reactors for the production of weapons material). I can think of one historical oddity where the ownership might still be the USG, but they don’t own / operate it. If there’s any other, it’s escaping me. The defining characteristic of US nuclear generation vs. most-of-rest-of-world is that it’s overwhelmingly privately held.

Loved your comment. I am in the US temporarily for family business. When people hear that I have lived in Germany for 30 years they get very talkative. One one hand it would seem that getting out of the US might seem like the only reasonable option at this point. But getting out means starting over. Getting out means one has to learn a new language unless a person wants to limit themselves to getting out to English speaking countries.
All the English speaking countries are going to be Authoritarian in the not to distant future. Canada, or Ireland might be the last to go that route. But also the economies of all the English speaking countries either suck now or they probably will suck in the very near future.
The continental European countries are marching towards authoritarianism just as fast as the US. The economies of these countries are fading even faster than the US is, or so it seems. So these countries do not seem to be all that alluring compared to the US.
Then when one factors in climate change the rest of the world is going to get suffer bone crunching problems even faster than the US or northern Europe. That takes Asia, Africa and South America off the list of potential immigration targets.
The bottom line is that no matter where one moves to from the US it will be unlikely that a person will have a chance to recover their investment that they made to move. That is unless the timelines that we predict for the collapse of industrial civilization, of between 1 and 40 years from now are wrong.
One joker in the deck would be a maassive volcanic eruption which could temporarily cool the planet. But I think that the odds are strongly stacked in our favor.
